Project & Activities
Members of Garden City Rotary regularly participate in activities to improve community well-being as well as managing several large projects that generate funds to support community needs.
WESTLAKE RESERVE – A COMMUNITY ASSET
What was once wasteland is now an attractive reserve for community use. Garden City Rotary adopted Westlake Reserve in 1994. In co-operation with Christchurch City Council and with substantial funding from Garden City’s Japanese sister Rotary Club, Sakai South East, our members have transformed the area with hundreds of trees, flaxes, shrubs, a jetty, archway, seating and walkways.
GARDEN City ROTARY MCDONALD’S YOUTH DUATHLON
The Annual McDonald’s Youth Duathlon is organised by Garden City Rotary to promote the development of healthy, fun-loving and well-adjusted young people. Between 1000 and 1300 young people between 7 and 15 years participate in this event each year.
Garden City Rotary is actively involved in many community activities:
- Providing support to youth – Peer Support Programmes at Christchurch Boys’ High School.
- Help make a Christmas brighter for disadvantaged families by Christmas hampers and gifts.
- Supporting Christchurch Girls High School Interact Club with their club activities.
- Supporting outbound and inbound Group Study Exchanges, unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunities for businesspeople and professionals between the ages of 25 and 40.
